רָגַע verb disturb (Late Hebrew Hiph`il move to and fro; perhaps transposed from Arabic disturb, BaES 8); —

Hiph`il denominative from רֶגַע make a twinkling, only 1 singular Imperfect cohortative וְעַד אִרְגִּ֫יעָה לְשׁוֺן שָׁ֑קֶר and while I would twinkle (= only for a moment: compare Job 20:5) is the false tongue opposed to תִּכּוֺן לָעַד, Proverbs 12:19 (compare De); and כִּי אִרְגִּ֫יעָה. אֲרִיעֶנּוּ מֵעָלֶיתָ I will twinkle and (= I will in a moment, Ges§ 120g; compare Hi) chase them away from it, Jeremiah 49:19 = Jeremiah 50:44. (Ba§ 86 as substantive = רֶגַע, of the very rare type 'aqtîl; ה-; as Ges§ 90 f.)

II. רָגַע verb be at rest, repose (probably = Arabic return, properly return to rest, after wanderings, etc.); —

Niph`al imperative2feminine singular Jeremiah 47:6 (of sword) be gathered into thy scabbard, הֵרָֽגְעִי וָדֹ֫מִּי repose, and be still.

Hiph`il a. transitive give rest to; — Infinitive construct Jeremiah 31:2 הָלוֺךְ לְהַרְגִּיעוֺ I will go to give him (Israel) rest, Jeremiah 50:34 לְמַעַן הִרְגִּיעַ אתהֿאדץ (on ׳הִ, see Ges§ 53l DrDeuteronomy 7:24; read probably ׳הַ); Isaiah 51:4 ומשׁפטי לאור עמים אַרְגִּיעַ usually I will cause my judgment (religion) to repose as, etc. (i.e. I will establish it; compare שִׂים Isaiah 42:4); but metaphor strange: hence Bachm Che Marti (joining to Isaiah 42:5) צִדְקִי (< אֲקָרֵב Isaiah 46:13) אַרְגִּיעַ אַקְרִיב in a moment (I. רָגַע Hiph`il) will I bring near, etc., Du הִרְגִּיעַ קָרֵב, Oort Ry Kit בְּרֶנַע קָרֵב (compare ᵐ5 ἐγγίζει ταχύ).

b. intransitive rest, repose, Deuteronomy 28:65 ובגוים ההם לא תַרְגִּיעַ, Isaiah 34:14 שָׁם הִרְגִּ֫יעָה לִילִית. So Ecclus 36:31.

III. רָגַע verb harden (Ethiopic coagulate, congeal: possibly a special development of √ see II. ׳ר); — Job 7:5 רָגַע עוֺרִי וַיִמָּאֵס my skin hardens, and (then) runs again (II. מָאַס), of the ulcers in elephantiasis.
