וַיִּקַּ֨ח מַקְלֹ֜ו בְּיָדֹ֗ו וַיִּבְחַר־לֹ֣ו חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה חַלֻּקֵֽי־אֲבָנִ֣ים ׀ מִן־הַנַּ֡חַל וַיָּ֣שֶׂם אֹ֠תָם בִּכְלִ֨י הָרֹעִ֧ים אֲשֶׁר־לֹ֛ו וּבַיַּלְק֖וּט וְקַלְּעֹ֣ו בְיָדֹ֑ו וַיִּגַּ֖שׁ אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃

ויקח מקלו בידו ויבחר־לו חמשה חלקי־אבנים ׀ מן־הנחל וישם אתם בכלי הרעים אשר־לו ובילקוט וקלעו בידו ויגש אל־הפלשתי׃ Strong's Concordance Holman Christian Standard Bible Instead, he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the •wadi and put them in the pouch, in his shepherd’s bag.
